Texas Smear Machine Targets DeLay

At stake in 2002 was control of the Texas legislature, which was to redraw congressional district lines. Corporate contributions to legislative candidates are illegal in Texas. The DeLay aides stand accused of violating that prohibition, along with eight companies like Sears Roebuck that provided the funds. The corporate money, however, never went to the candidates. Instead, it went to a much larger fund for state elections controlled by the Republican National Committee in Washington. That committee made contributions to Texas legislative candidates, constituting what Earle now charges is "money laundering."
The only problem is that similar transactions are conducted by both parties in many states, including Texas. In fact, on October 31, 2002, the Texas Democratic Party sent the Democratic National Committee (DNC) $75,000, and on the same day, the DNC sent the Texas Democratic Party $75,000. On July 19, 2001, the Texas Democratic Party sent the DNC $50,000 and, again on the same day, the DNC sent the Texas Democratic Party $60,000. On June 8, 2001, the Texas Democratic Party sent the DNC $50,000. That very same day, the DNC sent the Texas Democratic Party $60,000.

Ahhhh, isn't the soft-money hard-money shuffle simply beautiful? Don't look under too many rocks Ronnie. You might end up indicting the entire government of Texas! "Dem's felonies you know!" and it's Ronnie's job to prosecute "felonies". Quote from Ronnie Earle's DeLay indictment press conference... "It's my job to prosecute felonies!" LOL!!!

I understand that Tom DeLay voluntarily GAVE Ronnie Earles a "waiver" of the statute of limitations in the current indictment. Now why do you suppose he'd do THAT if he wasn't positive this case would blowback on the Democrats?

There is a fine point that the intellectually light, or defective, consistently overlook about this issue. Simply put what is a corporation, precisely. Analyzing the word "corporate" will give us a clue.
Our modern word is derived from corporatus, the past participle of corporare. The meaning of corporare is to make into a body. Corporare, of course, is derived from corpus meaning body. Now that we have the meaning of the word explained do we see where this is going? No? OK what is a corporation under the law? A corporation is an association that has been formed, and endowed, under the law, with the rights and liabilities of an individual.
Do we now start to see why the problem of corporate politically donations is inherently silly. We are trying to do what our constitution tells us we should not be doing by making one "body" more equal than another "body" under the law.
BB,
But you're missing a "key" component of liberal idealogy in your analysis. Social justice means some bodies ARE more equal than others. Dose dat gots gots to give to dose dat gots not!

Beside,
How will we ever to get to the liberal goal of having the government FUND all elections to make them FAIR If individuals and corporations are allowed to "GUM UP" and sway THAT process? Let the gov'mint decide who's "fit to run".
