Tom DeLay's Crime
Texas is an interesting study in what went wrong when the Democratic Party decided to become the progressive liberal demoracist party. Texans my age grew up around Democrat politics, the only game in town. People spent their entire voting age life pulling the Democrat Party lever. A Republican could not be elected dog catcher anywhere in The Great State of Texas. For one thing no self respecting citizen would humiliate himself and embarrass his family by association with the Republican Party. The Democrats had a lock and they blew it.
There was a period of time when Texans happily voted Republican for President and Democrat on down the rest of the ticket. That was very time consuming for people used to pulling one lever. In the end it was like the little hole in the dam that became larger and larger. I voted Republican for President why not John Tower for Senator? Soon the Democratic Party of Texas was spiraling out of existence as a serious political force in the Great State of Texas. The national party's decision to become the progressive liberal demoracist party did not help at all the Texas Democrat's struggle to stay in power.
Here's a nice, balanced piece in The Washington Times about Tom DeLay's crimes against the Democratic Party of Texas.

Before former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay began playing Texas statewide politics the same way Democrats had been playing the political game in the Lone Star state for years, the Democratic legislative delegations in Texas and the U.S. House of Representatives had a great ride, which lasted far longer than it should have. No wonder Democrats in Texas and Washington despise him so much.

Texas sure has come a long way in a relatively short time. Seems 60's counterculture values aren't playing as well as they used to in flyover America.

DeLay can do twenty perp walks and Ronnie Earle will still be a partisan fanatic fool, Texas will remain solidly Republican, and he will be found innocent twenty times.
OK, we have Big Foot nuts and Massachusetts has the Duck looking under his bed for fundamentalists every night. A nut is a nut regardless of geographical location.
Ronnie Earle offers Tom DeLay a "deal" Cop a Plea

A "variation" on "Oh Susanna"...
Oh I come from Alabama with my pickup and my tools.
I'm goin' to Lousiana, to make a fortune from some fools
It rained all night the day I left, the levies were still dry
The waters rose up on their porch, Katrina made them cry.
Chorus:
Oh! Katrina, oh don't you cry for me.
I'm goin' to Lousiana, my fortune for to see.
I had a dream the other night, when everything was still.
I thought I saw Katrina's wind a-blowin' up the hill.
The Superdome was in her mouth, the Gulf was in her eye.
Says I, I'm comin' from the South, Katrina make them cry.
Chorus
I soon will be in New Orleans, and then I'll look all 'round.
And when I see Katrina wake, my fortune will be found.
But if I do not find her there, this darkie surely lied
To get the taxman off my back
It's poverty I cried.
